Suspected Drunk Driver Injures Three in Silchar Crash

Guwahati: A high-speed crash injured three people at the Sadarghat point in Silchar. A WagonR slammed into a scooter rider before hitting an on-duty traffic policeman and a bystander. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which was traveling from the Rangpur side. Help arrived quickly. All three victims went to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

The injured traffic officer remains in critical condition. Santosh Ravidas, a resident of the Tarapur Ukil Bazar area, was driving the car. Local residents claimed the man was intoxicated when the collision occurred. Ravidas tried to drive away from the scene after the impact. Local residents and police blocked his escape. They caught him and the vehicle before he got far.

Witnesses noted the driver appeared impaired, with one report stating that "local residents alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol when he was driving, leading to the accident." Authorities now hold Ravidas in custody as the investigation into the incident moves forward.
