Imphal: The Manipur State Archaeology department kicked off a ten-day cleanliness and awareness campaign today at the Kangla historical site. This effort falls under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan initiative. It aims to restore heritage grounds through coordinated labor and public engagement.
Secretary of Art and Culture Naorem Praveen Singh served as chief guest. He noted that hygiene runs deep in local tradition, specifically referencing the cleaning rituals practiced during Cheiraoba. Singh stated, "Cleanliness is deeply rooted in Manipuri culture." He argued that a tidy Kangla will draw more tourists and eventually turn the site into a self-sustaining revenue engine.
Imphal Municipal Corporation Commissioner M. Nando Singh presided over the event. He confirmed that Kangla now holds a spot in the Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative. The corporation plans to install new dustbins and sanitation signage throughout the grounds. He insisted that civic duty remains the backbone of a clean Imphal.
Superintendent Shashikanta Sharma K praised the unsung workers who keep the sites functional. Officials distributed T-shirts to the maintenance staff as a sign of appreciation. The event also saw the donation of additional waste bins to the Kangla Board to support the ongoing work.
