Imphal: Maibam Gulubi returned from Istanbul with a gold medal. The Manipur powerlifter dominated the junior women's 57-kg category at the 2026 Asian Classic and Equipped Bench Press Championships. She represented the Powerlifting India contingent during the event, which spanned from September 21 to 27 in Türkiye.
Gulubi secured her spot on the squad under the Asian Powerlifting Federation. She departed Imphal earlier this month to face off against continental competition in the bench press categories. Her victory marks a massive win for her home state.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh took to social media to celebrate the result. He praised her for boosting the reputation of both Manipur and the nation. "Heartiest congratulations to Maibam Gulubi on winning the Gold Medal at the 2026 Asian Classic and Equipped Bench Press Championship held in Istanbul, Türkiye," the Chief Minister posted. He remains optimistic about her future in the sport.
