Kohima: INTACH Nagaland Chapter set up a new heritage installation in Longkhum village this Saturday. The move aims to drive local tourism and teach residents about their history. Rev. Aka Jamir of Longkhum Baptist Church opened the event with an invocation.
Mefutiba Longkumer, co-convener of the chapter, led the session. He told attendees, "The installation would serve as a useful source of information for visitors while encouraging the local community, particularly youth, to take greater interest in the history, culture, traditions and natural heritage of the village." This marks the second such project for the group, which previously placed signage in Khonoma village back in 2019.
State Convener Sentila T. Yanger joined the handover ceremony. Longkhum Village chairman Longkhumbo Jamir accepted the installation alongside the Village Council, the Tourism Committee, teachers, and local students. The group also handed out copies of "Tenemmozü Nokinketer," an Ao vernacular storybook about a hornbill warrior, to the children in attendance.
Organizers want kids to treasure their roots. They hope the book helps pass down traditions to the next generation. The program finished with a plea for village leaders and tourism stakeholders to work together on sustainable, respectful travel practices.
