Kohima: Nagaland Tourism Association members met with the Ziro Tourism Organisation on July 17 to demand mandatory certified local guides across the Northeast. The summit took place at the residence of ZTO chairman Hibu Tatu in the Lower Subansiri district. NTA president Vimeto Vakha and General Secretary Veshehu Kezo joined Tatu in the push for stricter regulations. They want to ensure professional standards remain high.
The NTA delegation is currently on a capacity building tour across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. They already visited Namsai and Pasighat to scout tourism potential and build regional partnerships. The groups argue that guides act as primary ambassadors who protect both history and heritage.
"Tourist guides are not merely route navigators but ambassadors of their destinations, serving as the first point of contact for travellers and creating lasting impressions through their knowledge, professionalism and hospitality."
Officials claim that certification will improve visitor safety and protect cultural integrity. It also provides sustainable employment for local youth. Both organizations pledged to continue working together to promote responsible travel that benefits local communities while safeguarding the natural environment.
