Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh wants the Namdapha Butterfly Festival to become a global destination for researchers and thrill-seekers. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein pushed for this expansion while opening the ninth edition of the event in Miao on Tuesday. The festival started small back in 2018. It needs to grow now.
Mein pointed to Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve as the region's crown jewel. He wants more people trekking and exploring wildlife there. "Sustained efforts were needed to give Namdapha greater recognition and establish Arunachal Pradesh as a leading destination for eco-tourism," Mein said during the ceremony.
The plan involves building better infrastructure and getting local youth involved in the industry. Officials accompanying Mein included Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte, Miao-Vijoynagar MLA Kamlung Mosang, and Nampong MLA Laisam Simai. Samuel Changkija, the Chief Wildlife Warden, also attended the event.
The Deputy Chief Minister spent his trip checking on local construction projects. He inspected a new state sports academy and cut the ribbon on a Maternity and Child Care Centre. He also opened a Youth Activity and Development Centre to round out the visit.
