Itanagar: Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will attend the closing ceremony of the Adventure Racing World Series qualifier in Arunachal Pradesh on November 21. State Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona confirmed the visit following a meeting in New Delhi this Wednesday.

The competition, known as Adventure@Mechukha 2026, runs from November 14 to 23 in the Shi-Yomi district. It marks the first time India hosts an ARWS qualifier event. Athletes from across the globe will descend on the Mechukha valley for the multi-day race.

Sona stated, "This landmark event, the first-ever Adventure Racing World Series qualifier to be held in India, will bring international and national athletes to Mechukha, placing Arunachal Pradesh on the global adventure tourism map."

State officials expect the contest to highlight the region's natural geography. Sona believes the Minister's attendance will motivate local communities and stakeholders. He aims to secure the state's future as a premier adventure hub, potentially creating new economic gains for locals through incoming tourism traffic.
