Kohima: The Nagaland Tourism Association and Ziro Tourism Organisation want mandatory certified local tourist guides across the Northeast. They announced this push during a July 17 meeting at the home of ZTO chairman Hibu Tatu in the Lower Subansiri district. The policy aims to boost safety and jobs. It also protects cultural heritage.
NTA president Vimeto Vakha, NTA general secretary Veshehu Kezo, and Hibu Tatu led the call. They argue that guides act as vital ambassadors for their destinations. These professionals offer far more than simple directions to travelers. According to the organizations, guides are "not merely route navigators but ambassadors of their destinations," as they provide deep insight into history, local traditions, and the environment.
The NTA delegation is currently on a capacity building tour across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. They have already hit stops in Namsai and Pasighat. These visits aim to scout regional potential and build partnerships between tourism stakeholders. Both groups pledged to promote responsible travel that guarantees long-term economic gains for local communities.
