Guwahati: Assam and Mizoram are joining forces to drive more travelers into the Northeast. Tourism ministers Ajanta Neog of Assam and Lalnghinglova Hmar of Mizoram met Saturday at Neog’s official residence in Guwahati to strike the deal. They plan to launch joint promotional campaigns and structured tourism programs to increase visitor footfall across both states.
Mizoram saw a spike in tourism following the arrival of the railway network in September last year. Hmar noted that Assam serves as the primary gateway for his state. "Most tourists visiting Mizoram come from Assam," Hmar said. This reality makes close coordination between the neighboring states a high priority.
Neog pledged that the Assam government is ready to deepen these ties. Both sides agree that mutual cooperation benefits their respective economies. The ministers also called for a broader alliance among all northeastern states. They believe unified efforts will establish the entire region as a top-tier destination for travelers across India.
