Guwahati: Assam and Mizoram officials struck a deal to boost regional tourism. Ministers met Saturday at the Guwahati residence of Assam Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog to set the plan in motion. Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar joined her to hammer out the details.

Mizoram saw a sharp spike in visitors after the state joined the railway network last September. Officials view Assam as their primary feeder market for travelers. Hmar noted that most people visiting his state originate in Assam. He told reporters, "Most tourists visiting Mizoram come from Assam," pointing to the clear need for tighter ties between the neighbors.

Neog pledged full support from the Assam government for the collaboration. Both ministers want their tourism departments to move in lockstep to promote cross-border travel. They argued that coordinated efforts across the entire Northeast will transform the region into a major destination for travelers. The two states plan to keep the momentum going as they build out their joint initiatives.
