Kohima: INTACH Nagaland handed over a new Tourist Information and Heritage Installation to Longkhum village this Saturday. This serves as the organization's second project of this kind, following a 2019 installation at Khonoma village. The project aims to provide visitors with facts while sparking interest among local youth regarding their natural surroundings, history, and customs.
Rev Aka Jamir, pastor of Longkhum Baptist Church, opened the event with an invocation. Mefutiba Longkumer, co-convener of the INTACH Nagaland Chapter, chaired the ceremony. He noted the goal is to make tourism data easy to find locally. According to a press release from State Convener Sentila T Yanger, "Such installations can help visitors understand and appreciate the unique cultural and natural assets of the village while encouraging responsible and respectful tourism."
Longkhum Village Chairman Longkhumbo Jamir officially accepted the installation. The Village Council, the Tourism Committee, teachers, and local students attended the handover. The team also gave students an Ao language colouring storybook called Tenemmozü Nokinketer, or The Hornbill Warrior. The book teaches children local legends to ensure they value and pass down their heritage. The event closed with a plea for institutions and the community to keep working together to protect the village legacy.
