Kohima: The 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency Congress Committee halted all operations on July 20. It will stay in suspended animation until party leaders fix their grievances. President Talimeri and General Secretary Wapangtemjen confirmed the group submitted a formal memorandum to the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee.
Discontent stems from the appointment of the Mokokchung District Congress Committee President. Imkongyanger received the appointment on March 30, 2026, following AICC consultations. The ACCC claims I Temsu Jamir took the role on July 4 without the party formally revoking the prior appointment. The committee labels this move as arbitrary high-handedness that ignores loyal workers.
Tensions also simmer over the April 9, 2026, bye-election. The committee warned that picking T Chalukumba Ao as their candidate was a mistake. They wanted a more capable choice. Their candidate earned fewer than 145 votes, while the BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen won the seat on May 4. The local committee cites their previous strength, noting the Congress lead of 8,506 votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha election as evidence of their hard work.
The memorandum demands the state leadership respect local political dynamics before the 2028 elections. Members are frustrated. They warned that if the party fails to provide an amicable solution, "its members would be left with no option but to resign en masse."
