Kohima: E.T. Ezung died in Dimapur on October 1. The former Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker served three terms representing the 40 Bhandari Assembly Constituency. He held various portfolios as a minister and also served as Deputy Speaker during his long political career.
Ezung sat in the 7th and 10th Nagaland Legislative Assemblies. He remained active in public life despite age and health struggles, serving as a district representative and executive member for the Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland until his death. He was a veteran of the Congress party.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio honored his legacy. Rio called Ezung a "passionate and dedicated leader who served the society selflessly." The Chief Minister noted Ezung's work with the Joint Legislators Forum to resolve the Naga political issue. Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton stated that Ezung's death marks the end of a notable chapter in state history.
Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer praised his commitment to youth and community organizations. The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president S Supongmeren Jamir remembered him as a perfect gentleman who stayed loyal to the party through difficult times. The Wokha District Congress Committee joined in mourning the loss of a political stalwart. Ezung was a fixture in Wokha and a representative for the Lotha community.

Ezung was 75 years old when he died following a brief illness. He first entered the state assembly in 1983. A 1974 graduate of St. Edmund's College in Shillong, he stood as one of the earliest Lotha leaders to command high-ranking public offices. Within his party, he held a seat on the NPCC core committee. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Lotha Lower Range Public Organisation members noted that Ezung hailed from Yonchucho village. The Lok Janshakti Party Ram Vilas faction highlighted his service as Speaker between 1985 and 1986.
