Kohima: The Nagaland Congress is sounding the alarm on electoral integrity. Party leaders flagged 157,752 discrepancies in state voter rolls on October 27 during their nationwide Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao campaign. Leaders gathered at Congress Bhavan in Kohima and Wokha to demand transparency in the Special Intensive Revision process.
Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir noted the state roll recorded 13,07,208 voters previously. Current records show only 11,49,456 entries. This leaves a massive gap. The figures include categories like deceased voters, permanent migration, duplicate entries, and untraceable individuals. State authorities have since ordered a house-to-house verification to confirm the status of these missing entries.
AICC observer Pranav Shagotra reported significant deletions across five specific districts. He claimed 7,900 voters vanished in Mokokchung, 11,513 in Zunheboto, 9,032 in Tuensang, 6,547 in Kiphire, and 3,325 in Longleng. In Wokha district alone, 6,547 voters are labeled untraced or deleted from an electorate of 1,88,018. Party workers are now armed with supporting documents to push the District Election Officer for immediate corrections.
Shagotra leveled heavy accusations against federal leadership. He alleged the BJP uses internal committees to target non-aligned voters for deletion. “The Central Election Commission was involved in the deletion of voters’ names from electoral rolls across the country,” Shagotra stated. Party officials are now comparing current data against historical records to verify the extent of these changes.
Congress observers Banna Gupta and Pranav Shagotra joined Jamir in demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They argued that denying access to digital voter lists hinders the ability to spot duplicate entries. NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo reminded the public of an October 12 directive ensuring no eligible citizen should be excluded from the rolls. Congress teams remain on the ground to track the verification process and will submit their final findings to the All India Congress Committee.
