Mokokchung Board Approves LADP Committees and Eyes Waste Rules

Kohima: The Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board met October 26 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall. Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, led the session. The board officially approved verification committees for the 2026-2027 Local Area Development Programme across all district assembly constituencies.

Board members reviewed land allotments at Marepkong Ward. Verma directed the Land Record and Survey Officer to track department status and report back. The District Culture Officer requested a revival of the Mokokchung District Art and Culture Council, which launched in 1988 to protect Ao Naga traditions. Verma asked members for fresh ideas to revitalize the council.

Registration requests for Community Care Connect in Kumlong Ward and Salukum Rogo in Ungma gained approval. Officials forwarded these documents to the government. Regarding the Viksit Mokokchung 2047 mission, SDO (C) Ajay Moktan, IAS, reported poor cooperation. Only a few departments provided required data for the vision document. Verma ordered immediate compliance.

Heads of departments face a busy schedule. A Union Minister of State arrives November 2 through 4 to inspect project progress. The Chief Minister of Nagaland visits October 29 to attend the Dr T Ao Trophy silver jubilee final. Verma told all department heads to show up. Officials also discussed new waste rules. The Urban Development Officer explained the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, active since April 1. Citizens must now sort trash into four streams: wet, dry, sanitary, and special care waste. Verma demanded better local sanitation habits. He stated, "The need to improve waste segregation to address local dumping and drainage problems" is urgent.

The General Manager of the District Industries Centre showcased local aid schemes. The board praised these efforts. Future meetings will feature reports from the Land Record and Survey Officer.
