Kohima: Ao Senden shut the Chief Medical Officer office in Mokokchung on October 21. Members of the Ao Lanur Telongjem and Ao Kaketshir Telongjem joined the protest. The indefinite closure follows a failed ultimatum issued September 16, 2026. The group rejected a government response sent October 15.
The standoff centers on staffing at Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital. Ao Senden blasted the Department of Health and Family Welfare for their handling of personnel. The group condemned the department for showing an "attitude of theatre of superiority instead of service to the needy." They argue the agency failed to meet any of the original ultimatum demands.
Key disputes involve the transfer of a Senior Specialist Radiologist to Naga Hospital Authority Kohima. The group insists on a replacement Radiodiagnosis Specialist. They explicitly refused the department's offer of a sonologist. Other unresolved demands include posting a dermatologist, moving hospital services to the new Block A, and recalling staff nurses and doctors attached elsewhere.
The department claims the psychiatrist from the Department of Health, Dimapur, will return November 1. They also stated that detachment orders for two nurses were issued and that Block A is ready for occupancy. Ao Senden remains unmoved. They hold the department accountable for any trouble caused by this protest.
