Imphal: Tension boiled over at Khongman Mangjil in Imphal East when authorities disconnected a power transformer shortly after its installation. Local residents mobilized in anger at the site, using loudspeakers to air their grievances against the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited.
The trouble started on August 19 when the area lost power. Thingujam Oxford, a social worker and recent Congress party addition, helped residents and electricity officials coordinate the necessary repairs. The team reinstalled the unit, but an MSPDCL crew cut the supply soon after. A second crew arrived later to fix the connection and restore power to the neighborhood.
Resident RK Jyoti Devi said the community struggled through the heat while the device sat broken. The transformer went out on August 19, moved for repairs the next morning, and returned that afternoon before the officials pulled the wiring. Oxford addressed the crowd at the Oriental Club to demand an end to the local power crisis. He insisted that the issue must remain free from political games. He told the crowd, "Everyone depends on electricity today, so uninterrupted power supply is essential."
Residents are now calling on MSPDCL to finish the wiring work properly. They want a stable, steady stream of electricity to avoid more blackouts in the future.
