Imphal: Security forces fired tear gas into a crowd of protesters in Delhi, injuring multiple civilians including the wife of a slain man. The Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee claimed authorities used excessive force to break up the gathering. The demonstrators sought justice for six Naga civilians allegedly abducted and killed by Kuki militants 100 days ago. Families have held protests for nearly 60 days to push for a resolution.

The organization slammed the government for inaction on the murders. They pointed to a double standard regarding medical care for the injured. While a wounded militant previously received security-covered treatment, peaceful civilians suffered violence during their demonstration. The group demanded an impartial investigation into the deaths and an independent inquiry into the police response.

“Demanding justice is not a crime,” the DMCC stated. They want medical aid and compensation for those hurt by the tear gas. The committee also requested clear assurances that future demonstrators can exercise their rights without facing state aggression. They expect the government to hold officers accountable for any improper conduct.
