Imphal: The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council Manipur (WC-JTCM) is blocking Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh from visiting the Makhan relief camp on August 8. The group demands the state settle the murder of six Liangmai Naga men before holding any public events in Naga territory. These men were abducted and killed on May 13, 2026, at Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district. It has been 85 days.
The victims' bodies remain unclaimed at the JNIMS morgue in Imphal. No arrests exist. No investigation reached a conclusion. The WC-JTCM insists the government prioritize these murders over humanitarian outreach. They called on all Naga leaders and civil society groups to boycott the visit and stop meeting officials regarding development or political dialogue until the government acts.
On August 6, a 12-member delegation from the Poumai Naga Naotumai Me (PNNM) visited Makhan to provide financial aid. Roughly 200 displaced people live in the village. Residents report the government refuses to officially recognize Makhan as a relief camp, leaving supplies dangerously low. Food stocks may vanish within weeks.
The chairman of Makhan village confirmed that the community did not invite the Chief Minister. "We never asked the Chief Minister to come to Makhan. What we have been asking from the very beginning is justice for the six victims. Even after 85 days, justice has not been delivered," he said. The chairman confirmed the village will follow the WC-JTCM's lead in rejecting the event.
