Imphal: The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council Manipur, known as WC-JTCM, blocked the Chief Minister’s upcoming visit to the Makhan Relief Camp. The trip was scheduled for August 8. The group says the state must deliver justice for six Liangmai Naga men killed in May first. No more political photo ops.
These men died after being kidnapped at Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026. Eighty-four days have passed since the attack. Their bodies remain in the morgue at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. Police have made zero arrests. No investigation has reached a conclusion.
The group deems any official engagement in Naga territory inappropriate until authorities settle this case. The committee issued a blunt statement: "The organisation said it did not approve of the Chief Minister's proposed visit to the relief camp, where he is expected to interact with internally displaced persons." They told civil society leaders, village authorities, and community members to boycott the August 8 event.
This boycott extends to all future government meetings regarding relief, development, or political dialogue. The WC-JTCM insists that nobody represents the Naga people without a collective mandate. They want concrete results, not empty promises.
