Imphal: The Kuki Chiefs Association of Tengnoupal district rejected plans for an 11th India Reserve Battalion headquarters at Saivom village. They claim the state pushed through a construction tender without consulting local stakeholders. The move ignores years of feedback. Tribal leaders insist the project stay stalled until complete peace and normalcy return to the region.
Civil society organizations stand with the chiefs. They refuse to let contractors break ground on the site, regardless of who wins the bid. "Even if any work tender is issued to any contractor, the CSOs of Tengnoupal district will not allow the execution of the work," the KCA stated. They warned the government and any private firms to back off immediately.
The association declared that any parties attempting to move forward will face full responsibility for the fallout. They demand the state focus on restoring order in the district before building new military infrastructure. The project remains at a total standstill.
