Imphal: Civil society organizations in Tengnoupal are taking a stand. They plan a 48-hour total shutdown of the National Highway starting August 24. This follows the state government failing to implement a governor’s order regarding doctor transfers and staffing at vital health sites.

Groups met at the Tengnoupal district headquarters on August 18 to finalize the strike. This move follows the expiration of a one-week deadline set in an August 16 press release. They want doctors stationed at the Primary Health Centre in Tengnoupal, the Moreh Primary Health Centre, and the Moreh Sub-Divisional Hospital.

The organizations stated that their goal is to ensure proper functioning of these medical institutions. They cited an urgent need for staff to address a surge in local illnesses. According to the groups, they are pushing the government to act due to "the prevailing situation involving dengue, typhoid, malaria and other communicable diseases."

Local leaders asked the public to back the agitation. They warned that the state government will carry the blame for any resulting trouble if the staffing demands remain unmet by the August 24 deadline.
