Nagaon Residents Protest Substandard Road Repairs

Imphal: Residents of Puranigudam in Assam’s Nagaon district are flagging major red flags over a road repair project. Contractor Sagar Sharma stands accused of cutting corners on the Diphlu Brahma Road-Rupahi connector. The work site sits directly in front of the Khatowal Mouzadar’s Office at Pahukata-Panigaon.

Locals caught workers dumping red stones mixed with red soil onto the road surface before rolling out a thin layer of black topping. The materials appear to be trash. Residents claim the stones and dirt came from illegal digging operations in the Beleuguri hills near Doboka. This area sits inside the Madartali Forest Range Office jurisdiction.

The shoddy work threatens to wash away in weeks. Public funds are at risk. One resident stated, "Local residents have urged the government and the concerned PWD authorities to inspect the work, verify the quality and source of the materials being used and take appropriate action if the allegations are found to be true." Neighbors want an immediate state audit to stop the waste.
