Imphal: The Tangkhul Naga Long Working Committee, or TNL-WC, launched a 24-hour emergency helpline for travelers navigating alternative routes through Ukhrul and Kamjong. Persistent regional conflict and severe monsoon weather have turned these paths hazardous for commuters from Manipur and neighboring states. Volunteers now stand ready to assist with vehicle breakdowns, medical emergencies, food, shelter, and lost travelers.
Drivers needing help should call Yarui I at 9612744804 or Yarui II at 9862144506. The rollout follows an indefinite shutdown by the Kuki CSO Working Committee, which started August 5 to protest alleged government inaction regarding a selective economic blockade.
Separately, social activists Ashang Kasar and Dr. Paul Chawang of Youth Rise for Change visited the sensitive border village of Liangmai Naga Taphou on Friday. The village maintains constant checkpoints to monitor the security situation. During a meeting with youth leaders, women leaders, and village authorities, Kasar pushed for continued unity and democratic protest. “You are standing today for the future generations. If we fail to stand for justice and protect our rights and land today, our future generations may face serious consequences and could lose their rightful place in their own land,” Kasar said.
The activists argued that indigenous communities possess a fundamental right to safeguard their identity and land. They called for transparent government administration and the proper identification of residents to manage displacement and migration issues. Kasar urged local leaders to assess future political engagement based on the government's ability to provide impartial justice and protection for all indigenous groups.
