Imphal: Community leaders and activists met at the TTA Smart Hall in Ukhrul on August 12 to tackle pressing demographic shifts and indigenous rights in Manipur. The Hao Ngashan Pharime Long hosted the event, drawing youth and social advocates to discuss land rights and future governance. Rev. Phungkan opened the session with a prayer before artist AS. Social activist Ashang Kasar pushed for a closer look at illegal immigration and state policies. He demanded the government update the National Register of Citizens using 1951 as the base year to protect local electoral interests. Kasar also challenged the silence of Naga leaders regarding territorial disputes in Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, and Chandel. The gathering also saw the release of a patriotic song titled "Wake Up Youths," written by Esau Makang to inspire the next generation of local volunteers.
Dr. Paul Chawang of Youth Rise for Change targeted systemic corruption in the hill districts. He insisted that citizens must watch their elected officials more closely. Accountability is non-negotiable. Chawang told the crowd: "The youth must play a more active role in shaping society and ensuring responsible governance." The meeting concluded with calls for peaceful, organized action to defend the region.
