Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla set a date for the next state assembly meeting. He officially summoned the eighth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly for September 2. The proceedings start at 11 am inside the Assembly Hall in Imphal.
Bhalla acted under the authority granted by Clause 1 of Article 174 of the Constitution of India. The official order reads: "In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, I, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, hereby summon the 8th Session of the Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly to meet at 11.00 am on Wednesday, the 2nd September 2026 in the Assembly Hall, Imphal."
State officials have not yet picked an agenda for the meeting. The total number of sittings remains up in the air.

Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretary Rohit Sapam issued the formal notification on Monday, August 17. The move comes as political chatter hits a fever pitch over an expected cabinet expansion.
Top BJP brass, including the party's North East in-charge, are heading to Imphal before the session kicks off. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh recently trekked to New Delhi to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. While other officials like Home Minister K. Govindas and Speaker Th. Satyabrata also made sudden exits from the state, Govindas claimed his trip was personal and Satyabrata reportedly left for Bali.
The current ministry, led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, has operated with just five members since President's Rule ended on February 4, 2026. Seven ministerial seats sit empty, fueling talk that the upcoming assembly session will serve as the backdrop for a major shakeup.
