Imphal: Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and BJP legislator K Joykishan Singh caught flights to New Delhi on Sunday, August 16. They left as talk of a cabinet expansion intensifies. The pair arrived at Imphal airport shortly after 1 pm to head for the national capital.

Biren Singh confirmed his travel plans to reporters at the terminal. K Joykishan Singh, representing the Thangmeiband constituency, departed on the same day. Sources within the party suggest the men intend to meet with senior leadership to hash out a new lineup for the state council of ministers and review the ongoing political volatility in the region.

State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam also appeared at the airport during the same window. He stayed quiet about his plans. When reporters asked where he was heading, he kept his destination under wraps. No official word has surfaced on how the state cabinet might change. Biren Singh told reporters at Imphal airport that he was “travelling to the national capital.”

The BJP-led administration remains under pressure. They continue to grapple with the fallout of the ethnic conflict that ignited across Manipur in May 2023. These meetings serve as a venue for party brass to settle administrative questions and finalize appointments. The party has yet to issue a formal statement regarding any specific changes to the current government structure.
