Imphal: Over 1,050 people packed the historic Kangla West Gate in Imphal on Saturday, August 15. They came to watch a 24-member Assam Rifles Pipe Band perform for India's 80th Independence Day. The show hit hard. The band played 15 patriotic tracks, starting and ending their set with Vande Mataram.

The crowd listened to popular songs including the National Anthem, Ye Watan, and Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja. Major General Gaurav Sharma, SC, SM, Major General Shubhankar Basu, VSM, SM, and Brigadier Pratyush Kumar, YSM, attended the event. Local business owners from Ima Market, police, students, and their families made up the diverse audience.

The band earned loud applause for their tight coordination and musical skill. Children gripped the Tricolour as the sun dipped low. Many in the crowd lit up their phones, filling the venue with a sea of lights. The Assam Rifles stated that the performance was part of their broader work to connect with local residents. They aimed to "promote patriotism, unity and national pride through community-oriented programmes." The display put the unit's discipline on full show while bringing the force and the people of Manipur together.
