CIRCA Marks 80th Manipur Independence Day in Imphal

Imphal: The Coalition for Indigenous Rights Campaign (CIRCA) marked the 80th Manipur Independence Day today. Members gathered at the Ideal Teachers Training Academy in Sajiwa, Imphal East. The event drew a crowd of local leaders and organizers.

Presidium members included IKAL president Ema Naorem Memma Leima and WASEDEV president Ema RK Tharaksana. CIRCA Vice President Longjam Ratan, ITTA Chairman GB Khagokpam Ronel, and ITTA Principal Dr. Yengkokpam Ranjan Singh joined CIRCA President Thokchom Somorendro on stage. They shared a platform to honor the history of the state.

Thokchom Somorendro urged the younger generation to learn the local past. The group intends to keep this tradition alive in the coming years. He asked for continued public support. During his address, Somorendro said, "Manipur has a long and glorious history" and emphasized the importance of memory.

The president claimed the Meitei community treats all local groups as equals. He insisted that no community faced deliberate suppression under the reign of the Ningthou or during modern times. He warned that if the Meitei people fear for their survival, the impact would hit every group in the state.
