Imphal: Manipur Congress leaders are bracing for the 2027 assembly elections. The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) just finished a total overhaul of its Saitu and Saikul block committees in Sadar Hills. President Okram Ibobi Singh signed off on the new rosters on August 10 to tighten the party grip at the booth level.

The Saitu committee now boasts 24 new office-bearers. R Rengsinkhup Kharam takes the lead as president with Romi Dangmei serving as working president. K H Kamchekkung Chiru and Thangkhohao Haokip occupy the vice-president slots, while Khamneison Kom handles the money as treasurer. Manghekam Kipgen is the secretary, supported by two joint secretaries and 15 executive members.

Saikul gets a much larger team of 41 members. Khuplun Khongsai assumes the presidency, backed by Lunginmang Haokip as the working president. The lineup features six vice-presidents, one treasurer, six general secretaries, six secretaries, and 17 executive members. These assignments are active now and stand until the party issues further orders.

The Sadar Hills District Congress Committee endorsed the shakeup. Dr. Lamtinthang Haokip, head of the district unit, thanked the top brass for pushing the changes through. He credited the leadership for the move. Haokip stated that the new block-level leaders would have an important role in strengthening the Congress organisation at the grassroots and booth levels.

He specifically thanked AICC in-charge for Manipur Saptagiri Ulaka and former MPCC chief K Meghachandra Singh for their roles in the approval process. The party is scrambling to expand its reach across Sadar Hills before the next election cycle starts.
