Shillong: Congress is scrambling to rebuild its Meghalaya base. The party holds zero seats in the 60-member state assembly after years of total dominance. AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge ordered an immediate organizational overhaul under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan. The party needs a win. Vincent H. Pala remains the state party chief while Deborah C. Marak and Khranglin Lyngkhoi Tbn take over as working presidents.
Tura MP Saleng A. Sangma steps in as Senior Vice-President. Boniface Bamon, Boldness L. Nongrum, and Omarlin Kyndiah join as vice presidents. Wansuk Syiem, Sanjay Das, and Brigady N. Marak will serve as general secretaries. The party formed four specific panels to handle political affairs, elections, discipline, and the manifesto.
A. Chellakumar chairs the Political Affairs Committee. Pala leads the Pradesh Election Committee. Khranglin Lyngkhoi Tbn runs the Disciplinary Action Committee with Wansuk Syiem acting as convener. Sangma heads the Manifesto Committee alongside convener Sanjay Das. New district heads include Lawanpynshngain War for Eastern West Khasi Hills, C.B. Syiem for Ri-Bhoi, and Princeco M. Marak for South West Garo Hills.
The revamp targets better coordination ahead of the Shillong Lok Sabha bypoll. AICC stated the changes aim to "strengthen coordination among senior leaders" to face upcoming political hurdles.
