Congress Predicts Tough Road Ahead for Meghalaya TMC

Shillong: The Trinamool Congress faces a grind in Meghalaya. Recent electoral losses in West Bengal damaged the party's standing. MPCC secretary Manuel Badwar told reporters on Friday that the Mamata Banerjee-led group suffered a “major debacle” that sapped public confidence. He noted the party is not dead yet.

Badwar claims the TMC will likely shift its focus back to its home turf. This change leaves expansion efforts in Meghalaya, Tripura, and Assam in the cold. The party will still exist, but the Meghalaya unit now faces heavy political pressure.

Most TMC legislators in Meghalaya are ex-Congress members who flipped before the 2023 Assembly elections. Badwar called on these leaders to think beyond short-term wins. He expects them to choose a path that builds a positive legacy for the state. Future growth depends on the choices these leaders make soon.
