Congress Leader Pala Blames Defections for Party Slide in Meghalaya

Shillong: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Vincent H Pala claims his party's local decline stems from leaders being bought out. He rejects the idea that voters turned their backs on the organization. Defectors gutted the party ranks. Pala told reporters on Monday that his party remains viable despite recent political losses.

"The Congress has not become weak because the people rejected us. It became weak because some leaders were bought over and left," Pala said. He pointedly urged voters to investigate the source of the money fueling these party switches. He warned that a hollowed opposition eventually hurts the interests of the public.

Pala maintains that party support persists at the grassroots level. He noted that he still encounters voters who back the platform. The MPCC chief is now focusing on the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election. His team has finished work at the district and block levels. They are currently reinforcing the booth-level network. The party is also tracking the Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls to ensure they are ready for the ballot box.
