Agartala: Twenty-seven security guards took a stand at Dharmanagar District Hospital on Wednesday. They staged a sit-in outside the office of Medical Superintendent Dr. Bhaskar Das to demand eleven months of back pay. These workers belong to a private agency, but their paychecks stopped arriving nearly a year ago. Families are suffering.
The workers struggle to pay for daily household expenses and school fees. Some broke down while describing the cycle of borrowing money just to survive the month. These guards keep watch over one of North Tripura’s busiest medical facilities, yet their own financial security remains absent.
Dr. Das met the group and confirmed he contacted the outsourcing firm. He told the workers that the agency owner must visit the facility to settle the accounts. Following this talk, the staff paused their demonstration. They made their position clear, stating, "only actual payment — not promises — would resolve their crisis."
Visitors worry that this unrest threatens hospital safety. The guards issued a warning to the administration. If the cash does not show up soon, they will escalate their protest. Twenty-seven families now wait to see if the hospital’s words turn into actual money.
