Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced Saturday that the state will soon open its new Health University. Officials will release an advertisement for the Vice-Chancellor position shortly. The state assembly already passed the bill to create the Tripura University of Health Sciences.
Saha spoke at the foundation day event for Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govinda Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital. He pushed staff to use new technology to improve patient care. He noted that patient referrals to hospitals outside the state dropped by nearly 80 percent in recent years. This success relies on the hard work of doctors and medical staff. Doctors and students received awards during the celebration.
The institutions serve a higher purpose. "Besides healthcare, Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital is a centre of humanitarian service, learning, research, and human values. The institution has earned a strong reputation across the Northeast region," Saha said.
AGMC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Viveknagar. Prof. (Dr.) Tapan Majumdar and Swami Subhakarananda Maharaj signed the deal to boost education and service. Meanwhile, the All Tripura Government Doctors Association donated Rs. 1 lakh to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund of Assam for flood victims.
Mina Rani Sarkar, Kiran Gitte, Saju Vaheed A, and other senior officials attended the ceremony. Saha continues to prioritize new infrastructure at GBP Hospital.
