Agartala Medical College to Add 100 MBBS Seats

Agartala: Agartala Government Medical College just landed a major win. Federal authorities approved 100 additional MBBS seats for the institution. The change takes effect during the 2026-27 academic session. Enrollment capacity will jump from 150 to 250 students.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for the support. He credited the move for boosting the state medical system. The Chief Minister stated, "The increase in seats would create greater opportunities for students from Tripura while further strengthening the state's medical education system and healthcare infrastructure."

This upgrade moves the college into a new tier. It now matches the size of elite schools like Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, B.J. Medical College in Gujarat, and the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. SMS Medical College in Jaipur, Madras Medical College in Chennai, and King George's Medical University in Lucknow also share this capacity. The expansion aims to serve students across Tripura and the wider Northeast.
