Agartala Medical College Expands Departments and Seat Capacity

Agartala: Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital will soon open two new departments. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Tapan Majumder confirmed the addition of Dermatology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation on Wednesday. Expansion is moving fast.

The state government also greenlit three additional units: Emergency, Hospital Administration, and Transfusion Medicine. These new departments will significantly bolster the facility's capacity. Major growth is ahead.

The college is scaling up its student body too. Current PG programs hold 97 seats, but officials approved 83 more. Undergraduate capacity is also climbing. The Government of India approved 100 new UG seats to join the existing 150. The Medical Council of India already cleared 50 of those spots. Confirmation for the remaining 50 seats should arrive within a week. As Majumder noted, "The MCI has so far given approval for 50 seats and confirmation for another 50 seats is likely to come in next one week."
