Agartala: Doctors at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital delivered a healthy baby boy via IUI, the state's second successful birth using this method. The mother, a Pratapgarh resident, struggled with infertility for eight years before seeking help at the state facility.

Professor Jayanta Roy led the treatment starting in 2025. Dr. Abhijit Shil assisted the clinical care. On November 21, 2025, medical staff performed the IUI procedure to introduce sperm directly into the uterus. This method serves as a less invasive alternative to IVF.

The patient delivered her 2.9 kg son by Caesarean section on July 28, 2026. The surgical team included Professor Jayanta Roy, Dr. Abhijit Shil, Associate Professor Salil Bindu Chakraborty, and Dr. Suparna Sutradhar. They sent the mother and child home on August 1, 2026.

The facility opened four years ago under the direction of Professor Jayanta Roy and Professor J.L. Baidya. The hospital claims this work helps families access care locally. The family shared their joy, saying, "helping them realise their dream of having a child."
