Agartala: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha ordered a major upgrade for GBP Hospital. Workers will install central air conditioning throughout the entire medical block. The move follows reports of patients lying on floors and missing electric fans in the wards. Medical Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami confirmed that the Public Works Department handles the project. "Since work is underway in some places where we are unable to accomodate patients due to safety reasons," he said.
Construction is moving slow. The PWD promised to finish the installation within three months. Officials hope this solves the cooling problems once the facility takes its final shape.
Hospital leadership is also moving the Central Laboratory to the old labour room. Prof. (Dr.) Tapan Majumder, Principal of AGMC, said relatives currently struggle to reach the lab for blood tests. Financial hurdles delayed this shift, but funding is now cleared. Crews should finish relocating the laboratory by the end of this month.
