Agartala: Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital administrators started emergency repairs one day after Tripura Chief Minister and Health Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha dropped by for an unannounced inspection. The visit exposed failing infrastructure and poor maintenance across the facility. Dr. Bidhan Goswami, the hospital superintendent, confirmed that the visit highlighted broken furniture, water leaks, busted wash basins, and incomplete painting projects.
Hospital brass met with officials from the PWD Medical Division, Agartala Government Medical College, and senior staff to hash out a plan. The PWD promised quick repairs, though they blamed recent rain for past delays. The hospital also intends to reopen the Triage Area at the Trauma Centre to speed up emergency care. Staffing shortages previously killed the project. Dr. Goswami noted, "The Chief Minister’s intervention helped identify persistent problems."
Management arranged new seating and water access for families, though officials admitted people are struggling to use them correctly. Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Bishnu Goswami and RMO Dr. Bikash Debbarma now carry orders to monitor these areas and prevent further headaches for visitors. Security remains a top priority following a string of thefts caused by missing CCTV cameras. The hospital now pairs police work with plain-clothes guards. These teams caught ten suspects in the last two months. Dr. Goswami vowed to maintain this patrolling to keep the open-access facility safe.
