Agartala: Tripura kicked off a digital transport overhaul this Thursday. Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated app-based Uber services and a Tourism Information Centre at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport. The project solves a major headache for travelers. Passengers no longer need to scramble for rides or haggle over fares upon arrival.
The rollout extends far beyond the airport terminal. Officials connected Agartala Railway Station and Jogendranagar Railway Station to the network via a virtual link. This move ensures travelers at these hubs can book reliable transport with a few taps on their phones. It marks a push to make the state safer and more accessible.
The new tourism center provides specific guidance on local attractions, accommodation, and travel destinations for incoming visitors. Chowdhury noted the government aims to boost the state as a destination by using modern tools. "The government’s commitment is to build Tripura into a modern, safe, and tourist-friendly state by harnessing the best of digital technology," Chowdhury stated.
The initiative intends to reduce reliance on older transport methods. Officials expect these upgrades to attract more visitors from across the country. The integration of digital services marks a clear shift in how Tripura manages its transit networks.
