Agartala: Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury met with state officials on Wednesday, September 30, to demand a coordinated push against road accidents. The 18th State Road Safety Council gathering took place at the Secretariat in Agartala. Attendees included secretaries from Health, Public Works, Finance, Revenue, and Disaster Management, plus top police brass and district magistrates from all eight districts. Roads are dangerous. The minister insists that government departments must sync up to protect pedestrians and commuters.

Chowdhury maintains that administrative mandates are not enough. He wants more public involvement to build a safer transit system. “Road safety is the collective responsibility of all of us,” he said. The state needs better preventive measures and tighter cooperation across every department.

Following the meeting, the Transport Department handed out 'Rahbir' awards to Good Samaritans who rushed crash victims to hospitals. Each recipient earned a certificate and Rs 25,000. Honorees included Kajal Debnath, Prasenjit Bhowmik, Ashesh Das, Khurshid Mia, and Ajit Das from Gomati. Dhalai district awardees were Satyajit Kumar Shil and Satyaranjan Debnath, while Latika Sinha represented Unakoti.

Chowdhury hailed the group for their humanity. He urged citizens to drop their hesitation and help those injured on the road. Don't be a passive bystander. Helping victims survive is a vital civic duty.
