Shillong: Pdeiñ Rangad, a scenic tourist destination in East Jaintia Hills, remains difficult to reach despite recent upgrades. The site features the 190-foot-high Umbyrlein waterfall, boating facilities, and a view of the 20-hectare sacred grove Khloo Blai. While community efforts began in 2018 and an Asian Development Bank scheme added a parking area and footpaths in 2025, a 1,200-metre road stretch remains a muddy track. Village headman Damon Lamo confirmed that a 2026 improvement proposal awaits sanction, while the site also lacks basic electricity and water supply.
In Shillong, the North-Eastern Hill University Entrepreneurship Development Centre honored five local entrepreneurs on August 31. Roshni Kharshiing, Habandajop Rynshnong, Ailashisha Khymdeit, Lapynhun Lyngdoh Mawlong, and Ruel Kharbudnah shared their journeys of scaling ventures. The awardees highlighted the risks, personal sacrifices, and perseverance required to build sustainable enterprises. The center, established in 2023, has mentored over 500 youth.
Meanwhile, Adarsh Singh and Anisha Pathak of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Umroi Cantonment achieved All-India Rank 27 at Technothlon 2026. The duo, who took the top spot in Meghalaya, were the only team from the Northeast to reach the Mains Round at IIT Guwahati. The competition tested students across diverse fields ranging from logical reasoning to creative problem-solving.
Separately, the Centre for Internal Security Analysis prepares to host the Meghalaya Pre-Event of the North Eastern Regional Dialogue on Internal Security this Wednesday. The forum includes former Judge BP Katakey and former Ambassador Riewad Warjri to analyze border security, narcotics, and organized crime. Discussions will examine how stronger border communities can improve state safety.
