Shillong: The State Disaster Response Force pulled a young man from a private water body in Mawdiangdiang on Monday. The victim drowned at noon. The East Khasi Hills District Disaster Management Authority alerted the 1st SDRF Battalion at 2:24 pm.
The rescue team left their base at the Civil Defence and Home Guards complex and arrived on the scene by 2:35 pm. Inspector S Dkhar led the operation. He moved fast. They recovered the body from the water by 3:00 pm.
Paul H Shylla, the PRO for the Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards, confirmed the timeline of the recovery. Police officers from the Mawdiangdiang Outpost and the local headman watched as crews brought the body to shore. Authorities took custody of the remains for legal processing. Officials finished their work shortly after the recovery.
