Shillong: Foodgrain wholesalers in West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and Eastern West Khasi Hills must now collect supplies from the Food Corporation of India godown in Shillong. The shift follows a review meeting held Monday by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Methodius Dkhar.
Roads to the Nongstoin godown are crumbling. The facility remains inaccessible for heavy transport. Officials decided to bypass the site entirely for the current cycle. While the government offered distributors the option to use any FCI facility across the state, the wholesalers specifically requested their September quota from the capital.
Stocks will start moving soon. Dkhar confirmed the government is treating this as a temporary fix. As one official noted, "Wholesalers from West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills and Eastern West Khasi Hills have been directed to lift foodgrains from the Shillong FCI godown following concerns over road conditions at the Nongstoin facility."
