Agartala: Election preparations in Mandai Block shifted into high gear Monday. Staff and security personnel headed to the polls for advance voting ahead of the September 28 ADC Village Committee elections. Voting ran from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. A second round follows on Tuesday.
The Mandai Block BDO and Returning Officer confirmed that 53 ballots were set aside for essential workers. This includes 40 votes for police and TSR personnel alongside 13 votes for polling officials. By midday, 20 voters stood in line. The station operated with a unique focus: "The entire polling centre was managed exclusively by women officials and staff, making it a fully women‑operated voting station."
Election officials cleared 330 valid nominations from 332 filings. Two were rejected. While 141 candidates secured their seats unopposed, 125 remain in contention for the September 28 general vote. Voters will head to 27 stations to decide the winners for 57 seats. The field features 8 candidates from BJP, 40 from CPI(M), 55 from Tipra Motha, 1 from IPFT, and 21 independents.
The Returning Officer reported a peaceful start. Officials expect the same momentum for Tuesday and the final polling day.
