Tripura University Launches Six-Day Translation Workshop

Agartala: Tripura University opened a six-day national workshop Monday titled Translating Voices: Language, Identity & Culture. The Department of English holds the event at Academic Building XI. It explores how translation shapes identity and bridges diverse linguistic traditions. The session involves several partners: Tripura Institute of Technology, Interface: A Literary Organization, Vidya Bharati Uccha Shiksha Sansthan, and Mondra: A Social Welfare Society.

Assam University senior professor Dipendu Das inaugurated the program. He discussed language intermixing and current trends. Bijoy Kumar Upadhyaya, principal-in-charge of Tripura Institute of Technology, attended as the guest of honor. He noted the relevance of these workshops to the National Education Policy 2020 curriculum. Multilingualism matters. Higher education requires it.

Special guests included senior journalist Manas Pal and Mondra founder Sunil Kalai. Pal warned against relying blindly on automated systems. He said, "Discussed the use of technology in translation and stressed the need for careful and responsible use of technological tools in the process." Kalai focused on the preservation of cultural aesthetics during the act of translation.

Prof Somdev Banik welcomed the attendees to the campus. The event provides a space for researchers, students, and academics to debate cultural expression. Dr. Aparna Das, the assistant professor and workshop convenor, wrapped up the inaugural session with a vote of thanks. The training continues with academic sessions on modern translation methods.
