Agartala: South Tripura district is bracing for Village Committee elections on September 28. A total of 115,355 voters will head to the polls across 70 committees. The voter pool includes 58,170 men and 57,185 women. Officials set up 177 polling stations to handle the turnout.
District Magistrate Mohammed Sajad P confirmed the timeline during a press briefing. Candidates have until 3:00 PM on September 8 to file nomination papers. Scrutiny follows on September 9, and the withdrawal deadline hits at 3:00 PM on September 11. Voting runs from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM on election day. If needed, re-polling takes place on October 3. Workers will start counting votes at 8:00 AM on October 5.
Sajad P appointed 32 Sector Officers to oversee the operation. He joined Additional Superintendent of Police Suman Majumder to detail the plan. The Magistrate demanded total cooperation from the public to keep the process orderly. He urged locals to follow the Model Code of Conduct to ensure a peaceful outcome.
The administration wants a clean vote. Magistrate Sajad P personally checked facilities at Kalapania High School in the Satchand R.D. Block. He reviewed the strong room and counting hall to guarantee security. District officials promised to provide a free and fair environment for all involved, stating the administration remains committed to conducting the election in a "free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner" for all stakeholders.
