Imphal: Research scholars at Dhanamanjuri University launched an indefinite sit-in protest today. They are demanding the immediate release of long-pending Non-NET fellowships. The demonstration follows a failed ultimatum issued yesterday by the Dhanamanjuri University Students’ Union. Administrative inaction pushed the students to the brink.
DMUSU president Irom Dimocha accused authorities of forcing scholars into financial distress. He noted that the university already submitted the list of eligible beneficiaries for the 2022, 2024, and 2026 batches to the government. Despite completing every formal requirement, the money never arrived. Students rely on this cash to fund their research.
Dimocha told reporters the strike will not stop until the money hits their accounts. He stated: "The agitation would continue indefinitely until the pending fellowship is released." The union warned that they will intensify their movement if the government and university leadership continue to ignore their appeals.
