Imphal: Dhanamanjuri University students are ready to fight. The Dhanamanjuri University Students Union issued a stark warning this week, demanding the immediate release of the long-pending Non-NET Fellowship for hundreds of PhD candidates. Union president Irom Dimocha says authorities have ignored scholars for years.
Three batches of PhD students enrolled in 2022, 2024, and 2026. The total head count of affected research scholars now hits 800. Dimocha claims the Government of Manipur and the university administration have failed to pay a single stipend to date. This leaves scholars under deep financial stress while they try to work.
The union leader minced no words during a press conference at the DMUSU office. "Research scholars cannot be expected to pursue quality academic work while being deprived of their legitimate financial assistance," Dimocha said. He questioned the state government on its actual commitment to higher education.
Students demand action now. If officials do not drop the money, the union, researchers, and students will launch a democratic agitation to force the issue. They want the government to intervene today.
